RATS Tracking Collars

RATS Frequently Asked Questions

Q) Do your collar work with other systems ?

A) Yes, our collars work with the most popular systems on the market. Just to name a few : Tracker, F&L, Quicktrack & Wildlife. Just call us with the name of your receiver and the collars you have and we will build a collar for your system.

Q) What kind of range can I get out of a RATS Collar ?

A) There are so many factors to consider when it comes to range. The landscape and amount of cover can adversely effect range. The weather and cloud cover will also effect range. Basically, anything between you and your dog effects range in an adverse way. It would be impossible for us to guarantee an individual will get so many miles out of a collar. We have seen our collars get as little as 2 miles under adverse conditions and then sometimes get over 12 under favorable conditions. You should expect to get around 4 to 8 miles under normal conditions.

Q) Why are our collars better than the competition?

A) What is better for some, may not be better for others. There are a lot of options to consider when buying a tracking collar. We encourage individual's to get the collar they want. We have tried to provide the information the consumer needs to educate himself or herself about our collars and make a right decision for them.

Q) Why are your collar antenna's not changeable ?

A) We have been building collars for many years. A few years back we switched the cable our antennas are made from, since that time we have not had a broken antenna. Our new antenna cable is very durable and is not likely to ever break. By sealing our antenna's in the collar housing we get better contact with the transmitter.

Q) What kind of life will I get out of my new RATS collar ?

A) Typically 4 to 8 years, under normal hunting conditions. Of course this varies from individual to individual. To prolong the life of your collar keep the magnet in it when not in use. We usually ship our collars with a spare magnet and rubber piece, but if you misplace them you can always call and order replacements -- they're a lot cheaper then replacing your collar.

Q) Will you ever offer a changeable battery collar ?

A) Yes, our changeable battery collar is available. Runtime is about 26 days continuous. Uses a 1/2 AA Lithium battery and mounted on a 21" Dayglo collar. This collar is preferred by owners of small dogs.
